Number 156 details

Inspired by our collection of Goodyear-welted men’s shoes, No. 156 combines traditional British oxford design with a feminine last form—namely, the »elegant last«. These white women’s brogues are made of soft deerskin and boast decorative perforation.

Exotic women’s lace-up shoes– the white women’s brogue

At the turn of the 20th century, women’s footwear was still largely hidden beneath floor-length skirts and dresses. Along with ankle-length hemlines came custom blouses and practical leather shoes such as the oxford, derby and blucher. Women enjoyed these simple and comfortable types of shoes, formerly the exclusive reserve of men. That being said, »simple« hardly does No. 156 justice.

This white women’s brogue honours the tradition of classic men’s oxfords and distinguishes itself from typical women’s shoes. Its closed four-eyelet lacing allows the wearer to adjust width and fit as befits individual needs. The shaft is made entirely of fine deerskin, while the lining and insole are made of vegetable-tanned cowhide. The soft deerskin boasts a fine structure and supple texture. No. 156’s extraordinary look is further distinguished by decorative perforation along the edges of the shaft, the wing caps and counter—a Scottish and Irish innovation.

Exotic leather meets Scottish shoemaking

In order to expedite the shoe-drying process in the swampy Highlands, the people of Scotland and Ireland swiftly came up with the solution of punching holes into their shoe uppers. This allowed any water that may have collected in the shoe to drain, and the shoe consequently dried more quickly. Nowadays so-called »Scottish perforation« serves merely as decoration, and on models such as this deerskin oxford the perforation is no longer stamped all the way through the leather. No. 156 is a high-quality shoe—Goodyear-welted, featuring a high percentage of leather as well as a refined Rendenbach outsole and heel.

This white women’s brogue is a very special low-rise shoe, and the perfect addition to any stylish woman’s wardrobe. No. 156’s classic cut, decorative perforation and subtly exotic feel make it a sporty yet elegant choice for wear between seasons and during tepid summer months.

Elegant Last

Elegant Last

Gently rounded towards the toe, with a toe box that rises slightly from the ground. This last lies close to the foot at the instep, and is of an average width at the middle. Significantly narrower than the classic last, the elegant last is recommended for average and low insteps.

Deerskin

Deerskin

This shoe’s upper features soft deerskin, known for its loose grip. Deerskin is prized for its fine structure and high degree of flexibility. Make sure not to get this kind of leather wet—you should waterproof it just in case.

Rendenbach Sole

Rendenbach Sole

For the past 140 years, Rendenbach has used oak bark tanning to produce leather soles—the process can take up to nine months. These soles are renowned for their extreme durability and natural water repellency. Women’s shoes with Rendenbach soles are a real novelty.

General information about our women's shoe collection

Goodyear-Welted

Goodyear-Welted

The gold standard when it comes to shoe manufacturing. Goodyear welting is a painstaking process that involves stitching the shaft and outsole to a thin strip of leather. Shoes made this way are extremely stable, durable, breathable, and easy to repair.

Handcrafted

Handcrafted

Mass-produced shoes are glued together on assembly lines. All of our premium, full-leather shoes, on the other hand, are handcrafted to the finest standards of quality. You can see and feel the difference.

Full-Leather Shoes

Full-Leather Shoes

The high quality of these shoes is reflected in their high leather content. Their uppers, lining, insoles, and outsoles are made from the finest leather. They even have leather heels, made by painstakingly stacking thin layers of leather on top of one another.

Construction

Construction

These shoes consist of roughly 65 separate parts. They took about 210 steps to assemble. We rely upon premium materials and traditional production methods to ensure that our footwear is of the absolute highest quality.

Gentleman's Corner

Gentleman's Corner

These shoes come equipped with a so-called "gentleman's corner". This is a small notch cut from the inside corner of the heel. This has a practical purpose—it prevents your trouser leg from catching on your shoe.

Breathable

Breathable

This shoe boasts a high proportion of leather, and has been assembled without the use of adhesive bonding—both of these factors ensure proper air circulation and prevent moisture from penetrating the surface. Dry, well-ventilated feet are healthy feet.

Delivery Content

Of course, our focus is on your new pair of shoes. But to underline our passion for our products, we enclose a few extras in your shipment. We hope that sparks your excitement about your new footwear.

Shoe Care Guide

Shoe Care Guide

Goodyear-welted shoes last far longer than mass-produced models. A dedicated cleaning and care routine is an indispensable part of keeping your shoes in mint condition. An introductory guide to shoe care is included with your order.

The values we live by

Lots of brands are quick to conceal the production methods behind their products, as well as the origins of the materials they use. We, on the other hand, have nothing to hide. From the very beginning, our products have been »Made in the EU«, in the classic sense. As such, we treat both our fellow man and the natural environment in a way that’s ecologically sustainable and ethically responsible. Each step on our supply chain is entirely transparent for you to see—that’s a promise we’re happy to stand by.

Values
EU

Made in EU

While most of our peers in the shoe industry are still unable to guarantee shoes that are »made in the EU«, we’re able to prove that our shoes are just that. We use leather from France and Germany, manufacture our shoes in Spain, and run distribution and logistics in Germany—our shoes are 100% made in Europe.

Environmentally sustainable

Environmentally sustainable

For many companies, all that matters are the profits; they fail to take notice of the disastrous conditions under which hides are taken in Bangladesh, or shoes are manufactured in China. We turn instead to traditional European tanneries and Spanish craftsmanship, to the benefit of man and nature alike.

Pricing

Pricing

Our promise: since you’re purchasing directly from the manufacturer, you’re spared the typical high margins. You’re also spared the additional cost of paying for a brand name. Thanks to our advantageous wide reach and our low cost structure, we’re able to offer sensationally low prices.

Transparency

Transparency

From the provenance and treatment of the leather we use, to the conditions in our Spanish factory, to delivery with our logistics partner, we don’t leave any stone unturned. We provide copious, transparent information on every step in our supply chain.
