High-quality footwear is professionally assembled from high-quality materials. When properly cared for, quality shoes are guaranteed to enjoy a long and happy shelf life.

Haltbarkeit 1

The most important factors in determining the shelf life of a Goodyear-welted shoe are the material used to make the shoe (e.g. first-rate leather) and the way in which this material is processed. Several other factors also play a part in determining shoe durability. These include frequency of wear, the production method used to make the shoe, shoe care, breaks from wear (airing and drying), and the wearer's gait and weight.

Careful processed materials are the cornerstone of durability

Thanks to its mature grain structure and the preparation it receives in the tannery, prime leather is perfect for ensuring shoe durability. First-rate leather should therefore be used for the shaft and insole of a shoe. That being said, even the best materials are of no use if the processing is slapdash; said materials need to be meticulously processed, and reinforcements need to be carefully and discreetly integrated. Luckily, a happy symbiosis exists between quality materials and the way in which they are processed: premium leather is only acquired by companies committed to premium processing, and premium processing is reserved for premium leather.

A perfect fit and careful care prolong shoe shelf life

When it comes to buying men's shoes, the fit should be the deciding factor. If the shoe is too short in length, the heels and the toes will press up against the leather, causing the shoe to gradually lose its form. If the shoe is too narrow, the area corresponding to the ball of the foot will rapidly wear out, and the shoe will lose its shape. On the other hand, if the shoe is too large, deep diagonal wrinkles will form over the balls of the feet, making the leather around the seams, and subsequently the entire upper, susceptible to breakage.

Haltbarkeit 2

Proper, careful care is the best way to ensure a long shelf life for men's shoes. Caring for your high-quality shoes can even make them improve with age. If necessary repairs rare also undertaken by a professional, a Goodyear-welted shoe can easily enjoy a shelf life of six to ten years. Moreover, the style-conscious man is apt to buy more than one pair of these high-quality shoes. By keeping them in rotation and refraining from wearing a single pair too often, he can enjoy his Goodyear-welted shoe collection for a good 15 to 20 years.
