French Tradition and Innovation
In 1931, Frenchman Frédéric Pfirter founded his own company for exquisite shoe care products on the sixth floor of an ordinary rental house, initially known as "Fama". The term comes from Latin and manifested the motivation of the French entrepreneur in the sense of "tradition" and "reputation". Pfirter always understood high-quality leather as a natural product, whose distinctive beauty and suppleness could only be preserved with high-quality care. With this claim, he developed his first shoe cream and created the starting point for the later extensive care range of Famaco.
The characteristic logo, which then as now shows two gallant gentlemen with top hats and canes, originated from an evening gathering: Pfirter was sitting with a friend enjoying a good glass of wine, when his gaze fell upon the label of that delicious port wine. On it was a gentleman with a top hat, and the idea for the well-known Famaco design was born. However, the original company name needed to be changed.
As it turned out, there was already a similarly sounding brand called "Lama". In order to avoid potential confusion, "Fama" was quickly replaced with "Famaco". These initial disputes could not tarnish the success of the French company. Pfirter continuously worked on the quality of the shoe care products and shaped Famaco into a specialist for high-quality made in France care products. In 1974, the experienced entrepreneur handed over the management to his son Alain, who with a combination of tradition and innovation made the family business Famaco internationally known.
